Character name: "Kalael"
Fandom: Original Character
Timeline: After he approves of the Archangel candidates.
Age: Appears to be in his mid-twenties. Is actually 1024 years old.

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: In terms of physical ability, Kalael doesn't have much. While he's been trained in the use of the gun, his physical strength is shoddy enough that the kickback is likely to throw off his aim completely and make his shoulder useless for the next week. He's also familiar in the use of a sword, but like the gun, he lacks the necessary body strength to utilize it effectively. The fact that he can even use a blade is more a formality of his station than anything else, anyway. Any skills Kal has that aren't magical lay only in his agility and his reflexes. He's quick and light on his feet (due mostly to his body structure), able to evade and dodge effectively against attacks. However the skill is nothing special and not something one would consider above average.

Kal also has access to a plethora of abilities that can definitely be considered unnatural. By default, he can understand all spoken languages on Earth and even ones that don't require the use of voice. He is also empowered by natural light which means he is stronger in sunlight or on the night of a full moon. (And vice versa, weaker on the night of a new moon.)

In terms of unique skills, Kalael is a powerful healer. Inherited from his mother, his skills to mend broken bones and repair damaged tissue is impeccable. Anything from a shattered rib to a headcold is fair game for him. What he can't heal are fatalities and long-standing diseases. If a person has suffered a fatal blow and is going to die within the next few minutes, chances are he will not be able to save them as he wouldn't have the required energy or the time to cast the spell. Terminal illnesses also fall into this category as the energy, power and skill required to heal them isn't something he possesses. (If he was in Heaven, he might be able to manage it but any place other than God's domain is impossible.) He also cannot bring someone back from the dead as, once Death has them, he refuses to interfere for the sake of his own personal balance and the soul in question. It's considered too dangerous for either party involved.

Along with healing, Kalael learned to purify and defend. He can cast barriers to keep things in or out and can extend them to encompass an entire building. These barriers, since they are magical in nature, can effect both the natural and supernatural. However, these can be extremely draining, especially if something is constantly battering it and or trying to break it down. If assaulted, it can be assumed that without the sunlight to help, the barrier won't last more than a day or two at most. (In daylight, they might hit the five day mark. Unassaulted barriers last double the time they would if they were being attacked.) As these skills are not his forte, they can also be overwhelmed by powerful beings with some effort. This also goes for his ability to purify and exorcise ghosts or malignant spirits. If the incorporeal form in question is stronger than him or possesses a greater will, he will not be able to send it away or dispel it. (More often than not, he'll just piss it off.)

Kalael's most powerful ability is the spells within the lightning category. He can conjure storms, throw thunderbolts and wreak havoc on electrical systems. Also, one of his unique abilities is changing the polarities of things around him. Because almost everything on this Earth has a magnetic charge, Kal is able to change it with a shock and shift the polarity from positive to negative, or vice versa. Naturally, this only works effectively enough on metal surfaces to actually do something, but if he manages to zap an enemy (with a physical form) and then charge a metal surface, he can either force the two to repel or attract each other, potentially hindering movement.

As a side note, because he's the Overseer of Earth, he also possesses the ability to create dimensional rifts. These are the portals that can be opened between realms, usually between Heaven and Earth. However, this skill is exceptionally draining and can use up most of (it not all) of his power if done without a proper arch. As such, this ability will most likely not be used anywhere outside of Heaven as an improperly conjured gate could result in a very, very messy arrival.

Weaknesses: As an angel, Kalael can survive on sunlight alone. So long as he's constantly exposed to the light, he doesn't have to eat, sleep or even rest. But in a place where the sun and moon rotate, Kalael falls prey to certain weaknesses that can only be called "human like." Because moonlight generally isn't strong enough to sustain him, in these kinds of places he has to turn to food and rest to restore his energy instead, in order to maintain his body strength and his magical ability. However, as an angel he is strictly forbidden from eating the flesh of other living things. Because of this, if he attempts to eat anything other than milk, honey or water, he'll get stomach pains. Meat is completely out of the question as he'll throw it right back up.

It should be noted that, normally, Kalael's body is extremely fragile and incapable of great stress. In this state, he couldn't punch a wall without breaking his wrist. However, thanks to his magic, he's able to reinforce his muscles and bones so that he can perform as adequately as your average human being. As you can imagine, if his magic is depleted, his body's durability will revert back to this state.

His magic, which is fueled by light sources, has two ways of being completely depleted. The first is if he goes without any kind of natural light, sun or moon based, for too long. (Artificial light from light-bulbs won't cut it.) After the third day of complete darkness, his magic will start to fade. On the fifth day, it will be gone completely until he bathes in natural light again.

The second way is if he expels all of his magic by using it. Casting too many spells will deplete his magical reserves just as effectively as going without light can, moreso in fact as spells can drain his magic faster. It should also go without saying that if he casts spells after the third day of no light, he'll lose much more than he normally would.

However he loses it, once his magic is gone he loses all of his magical ability and his wings, as well as his enforced body structure.

How would they use their abilities?: Sparingly and to serve himself mostly. Kal isn't exactly the "self-sacrificing" type and as much as he hates to admit it, misery goes hand-in-hand with happiness. Thus, while he might offer his services to those whom he considers close to him, he won't be acting selflessly without good cause.

Appearance: At a height of 5'11", Kal is slender and more beautiful than handsome. With waist-length silver hair and amber golden eyes, there's a distinct supernatural quality to him, not helped by his raging androgyny. While some people might mistakenly think he's delicate at a first glance because of his pale skin and thin build, anyone who takes a moment to inspect him will see he moves fluidly with all the comfort and elegance of someone who is used to his body and knows how to use it.

There's also a small burn mark on the inside of his left forearm, just above his wrist.

Background:
World Info: The year is 3014 A.D., if you can believe it. Earth has progressed significantly in the last millennium in technology, knowledge and quality of life. The average span of a healthy human being these days can go as far as 300 with a record breaking 329. Mankind has left the soils of the planet that bore them and has gone beyond the milky way, emulating the travels of such shows as Star Trek. The internet, more commonly known as the matrix these days, has been expanded, improved and upgraded upon until it is the best known method of communication between those who remain on Earth and those who went to live upon space stations and mankind's colonies among the stars.

As far as discovering alien species goes, they've fallen dramatically short of humanity's sci-fi ideals. While other life does exist, most are not nearly as advanced as humans are (adding another dollop into the pool of ego) which leaves humanity as the stars sole travelers. For now.

In regards to Heaven and Hell, precious little has changed. The angels still live among the clouds and judge the humans as unworthy mortals while the demons do all they can to corrupt them to their side. This status quo has forced new leaders to implement their changes subtly so that their attempts to push the immortal realms in new directions are not met with complete resistance.

However, as tensions rise and some traditionalists get frustrated with this stalemate between Heaven and Hell, there's a looming threat of war that many, Kalael included, are desperately trying to prevent.

History: Originally born under the name Gin, Kalael was at first an ideal angel child. He was kind, gifted at everything he set his mind to and eternally loyal to the word of God. His parents, one a famous general of heaven and the other a miraculous healer, could not have been prouder of him or his brother, Kailus.

It was Kailus that ultimately began to change him. A newly promoted captain and in charge of multiple forays to Earth to purify the demon scourge, Kailus began to change after each visit to Earth, seeming a little more confused and uncertain about his actions. He had begun to think things that were unbecoming of his station. Things like: perhaps not all demons are evil and maybe not all angels are good. It was these concerns he mistakenly voiced in front of his 10 year old brother, Gin.

Gin, impressionable and ever a follower (at that point) began to consider these questions for himself. It was at that point that a crack appeared in the rose-colored glasses he'd worn for his entire life. He began to see things that he thought might be wrong and hear things that didn't make sense. Eventually, not realizing it was socially unacceptable for him to do so, he began to question the teachings of his elders. When they told him to forget his concerns, he dug his heels in and refused, seeking an answer to why they were committing morally questionable acts when they were angels; beings of righteousness, God's first creations and the ones intended to supervise and correct the lives of those beneath them.

For his questions he was labeled a troublemaker and unwanted; he became a pariah to his own kind. Even his parents tried to make him forget his questions and rejected him when he persisted. But the harshest blow was the reaction of Kailus, the one who had first confided in him these thoughts. Kailus, realizing what their discussions must have done, scolded Gin for his stupidity and told him to never speak of such things again in an attempt to protect him. Gin, hurt beyond all belief, argued back and they had their first fight. A fight that resulted in Gin's oath to never speak to Kai again for the rest of his life.

But what was simply petulant childishness at the time ended up leaving a permanent and damaging mark on his psyche. Kai was eventually sent on another mission to Earth and a week later, his family learned that he had been killed in a demon attack. The death tore their family apart. Gin, already dealing with his guilt and mistaken belief that he had cursed his brother, was suddenly torn from his original studies (that of a healer and spell caster) to be placed in combat teachings for warrior angels. The reason for that was because of his father's position as a general. As a powerful general, it was expected that one of his children would eventually take over his position when he retired and originally that child had been Kailus.

Since his body had already been in the transition to become a healer, Gin handled the change poorly and quickly fell behind in his studies. Already outcast and rejected by his peers, this new environment served only as a channel for bullying and ridicule. His poor performance and ever growing hatred of the people around him finally led to his parents doing something they had never done before, fight. Realizing he was the cause of the arguments, Gin drew further within himself and began to avoid his home.

As you might expect, all of this darkness and growing negativity inside of him eventually had an unwanted consequence. One day, when Gin woke up, he noticed that his wings had turned gray, the beginning signs of a fallen angel. Realizing what was happening to him and knowing what the other angels would do to him if they found out, what his own father would do if he was discovered like this led him to run away from heaven. His escape, poorly planned and even more poorly executed, was eventually discovered and as he fell into the rift which would lead him to Earth, it was his father who tried to make the killing blow. A fact Gin never forget for the entirety of his existence on Earth.

On Earth, it was pure luck that had two fairies passing by as he lay unconscious in the middle of a parking lot. When they realized what he must be, they took him in with very few questions and cared for him. Upon waking, Gin admitted that he didn't know what to do or where he could possibly go. Seeing he was lost and alone, the oldest fairy, May, offered to let him stay with the her and her daughter. Having no other option and being too miserable to even think anything of staying with beings he had been taught were malicious and evil, Gin agreed and he was, essentially, adopted into their family.

It was May and Skye, her daughter, that ultimately saved Gin in both the figurative and literal sense. Skye, persistent and bossy, kept after Gin when he would have preferred to stay a recluse and wither away. She was constantly dragging him out of his room and forcing him to learn the things necessary to survive on Earth. Though he was hesitant and apologetic about it at first, eventually Gin became so used to arguing with Skye that it became second-nature for him. So by the time May suggested Gin start attending school with her, most of the social awkwardness he'd had from living in Heaven all his life had been worn away. It was at school that he met the few unique people that would ultimately become his lifelong friends.

One of them was a demon posing as a teachers-aide who went by the name Chaos. Chaos, a direct descendant from the Devil himself, was as much of an outcast as Gin and immediately took a liking to him (though for, admittedly, impure reasons.) Whatever his initial motivation, however, after a while Chaos found Gin's frankness and sarcastic temperament to be endearing enough to stand by his side against the warrior angels whenever a group managed to find him. It was because of Chaos that Gin survived long enough to learn how to blend in perfectly on Earth and enjoy 3 years of living as an average human boy.

When he was 16, however, the angels finally changed their tactics and instead targeted a weaker person to try and incapacitate Chaos. They attacked and kidnapped Chaos's blood-brother, a human by the name of Merlin. Chaos, who had been busy protecting Gin at the time, didn't realize it until it was too late and there was nothing he could do.

Though nobody ever indicated or even said as much, Gin always held the blame for Merlin's loss inside his heart and he left his foster family shortly afterward, not wanting to place them or the friends he had made in anymore danger. For 3 more years Gin went essentially underground, hiding from Heaven and its warriors while eking out a living doing a multitude of small jobs.

Eventually, when he was 19, he settled down in San Francisco as a bartender for a sanctuary masquerading as a club. The club, called Purgatory, was run by another fallen angel by the name of Stefan who used the club as a gathering spot for the unwanted and the outcast of the magical world. There he had gathered an assortment of ghosts, werewolves, vampires, demons and angels alike, anyone who was seeking protection from something else. As fate would have it, that was where he reunited with Skye who, upon seeing him, immediately gave him a thrashing.

Afterward, Skye sent out the word and it wasn't long before his friends began to gather around him. The vampires Arime and Jared, Chaos, Merlin (who had been rescued after a year), the dragons Drake and Davian and the human Tara. It was they who kept Gin from uprooting himself again and kept him in San Francisco longer than he would ever choose to stay in one spot. And it was because of his prolonged stay in that place that the person Gin least expected to ever find him, finally did. One night, Gin was attacked by a single angel who, despite having powerful skills, seemed to be a fairly immature spellcaster. When Gin managed to subdue her easily, she revealed herself as Uay, his little sister.

Uay, who had been born long after he had run away, had left Heaven in order to hunt him down. She explained that things at home had not improved since he had gone to Earth and, if anything, had only continued to deteriorate. When she learned what he had done, she decided she had to go to Earth to try and kill him herself, believing that would fix the problem. However, when she realized that Gin's wings weren't black, as she expected, but were instead white, she had hesitated which was why (she claimed) he had defeated her so easily.

Since an angel's wings are both their source of power and a reflection of their soul, Gin's wings should have been pure black to show how twisted and evil he was inside. What Uay didn't know was that the love and caring of May, Skye, Chaos and all his friends had repaired the damage done to him in Heaven so long ago. That because of their actions, kindness and open friendship, he had never truly become a fallen angel.

When this was explained to her (by Chaos, Skye and Tara; Gin himself was too embarrassed to admit it,) Uay demanded time to think this over and observe if this was really true. To that end, she began to monitor Gin's actions for the next few weeks, causing Gin to fret, become frustrated and complain continuously about her being an annoying pest. As you might expect, bickering like siblings caused feelings of affections to take root and eventually, before either of them realized it, they were looking out for each other and covering each other's backs.

Which was why, two months later when Gin, Uay, Chaos and Skye were suddenly teleported to Heaven by the will of the Archangels, Uay immediately placed herself in front of Gin to protect him from any attack spells. Her father, they explained once everyone had calmed down enough, was concerned she was being poisoned by Gin's lies and had wanted her to come home immediately. They had also decided it was high time they finally disposed of the rogue fallen angel who had been evading them for nearly two decades now.

When they moved to kill Gin, however, Uay spoke out immediately, saying he wasn't evil and that he had never abandoned God's light. This of course required proof, which lay alone in the pure white of Gin's wings. Realizing then that they couldn't act immediately, the Archangels were forced to hold a discussion and released Gin into the custody of Uay while they debated over what was to be done. It was then that he was finally reunited with his parents who had come to retrieve their daughter.

Though his father, Taliro, remained convinced Gin was evil (especially given he was in the company of a demon and a fairy,) his mother immediately embraced him without concern, apologizing profusely and begging his forgiveness. Gin, unable to stand the sight of her crying (for he had always had a mother complex) hastened to reassure her that he no longer held any hatred of her or for the things that had happened in the past. While he went to introduce her to Skye on her insistence so that she could thank Skye for saving him, that left Chaos alone with his father.

Chaos, naturally, proceeded to heckle Taliro about his actions, stating that he was "so excellent a general that he would even sacrifice the people who loved him if God wanted it." Though Taliro didn't show as much, the words stung him enough that he finally abandoned the conversation in favor of approaching the Archangels to see what they had judged. To his surprise, and Gin's as well, they decided that he could not be executed. Their reasoning was that he had never really done anything wrong besides leave Heaven, and though some had wanted him executed for just that, others had voted to spare him as apology for "jumping to conclusions."

To that end, they extended Gin an invitation to return to Heaven and continue his existence there.

Gin, in no uncertain terms, told them to go fuck themselves. He stated he would never be able to stand living in Heaven with a bunch of stuck-up assholes who were so bound to the words of a being that had never even so much as sneezed in their presence that they couldn't even live their own lives without referring to out-dated teachings that had probably been distorted by the passage of time. He said, quite plainly, that he was returning to Earth with his friend and foster-sister and that they couldn't pay him to live in Heaven again with the way things were.

Since the Archangels had already voted not to kill him and Gin was quite insistent on getting in their way if they tried to execute Chaos or Skye, they were forced to release the three of them back to Earth. There, Gin finally let go of all his pent up hatred and decided he was going to get on with his life and quit dwelling on the past.

Of course, he got maybe two weeks of peace before he was visited by a messenger and told that, for being spared Heaven's wrath, he was expected to act as a teacher to the new warrior angels in repayment. After that Gin was constantly being involved in Heaven's affairs, acting as an mediator between angels and demons and everything else. As the years passed and his magical power finally began to grow and expand in awe-inspiring leaps and bounds, Gin proved himself to be every bit a prodigy as his brother had been and his sister was turning out to be.

In the end, by the time he was almost 800 years old, he had achieved such a fearsome level of political influence and magical ability that the Archangels, even those who disliked him, were forced to agree that he had to be given a title in order to keep him in line and his supporters appeased. To that end, he was granted the name "Kalael" and the position of Overseer of Earth, in charge of managing and maintaining all affairs with humans and lesser mortals.

Upon receiving that title, Taliro, who had been dealing with his growing uncertainties all this time, finally confronted Gin, now Kalael, and offered a hesitant and gruff apology for that incident all those years ago. Unfortunately, as neither of them were too graceful in expressing their emotions properly, the conversation quickly dissolved into a fight and his mother and sister were forced to step in.

But they did gradually make-up.

Personality: In a word? Sarcastic.

Kalael has had a millennium to refine his dry wit and cynicism, and it shows. On a first impression, he's disrespectful, condescending and always mocking, belittling one's efforts no matter what result they've managed to achieve. To say he's an extremely frustrating person to deal with would be a massive understatement as he never seems to give a straight answer and is always determined to be uncooperative or just downright difficult. The reason for this is not because he's an asshole (although that's certainly a big part of it) but because he's learned well by now that sometimes in order to make someone understand something, you need to give them the roundabout rather than a straight answer.

(And also because he should at least get to do the "old man wisdom" thing if he's going to get the wrinkles regardless.)

Beyond that, however, he's definitely what someone would consider a good person deep inside. When the occasion calls for sincerity and a lack of play-acting, he is shown to be extremely quick-witted, cunning and thoughtful, a cautious strategist hidden behind the facade of an aimless jerk. He's determined, resourceful and refuses to accept defeat when he knows everything happens for a reason. More than that, he's kind. He will never leave someone behind if he can help it and he'll never sacrifice another person for his own sake. Though his sense of morals might be skewed, his heart is in the right place and he'll do whatever he can to help others in trouble.

In that sense, Kalael is much more “human” than many would expect of an angel, in that he has emotions and freely expresses them. During the occasional time he allows his temper to get the better of him, he swears and cusses with the best of them and is liable to throw small tantrums. (Kicking chairs over, slamming doors and the like.) He also has extremely mortal desires. Though he doesn’t need them to survive, he likes to indulge in alcohol, sex and other frivolous pursuits that definitely fall under the category of “wants” rather than “needs.” This can be attributed to having spent nearly all of his life on Earth rather than in Heaven, which explains why his personality takes after more mortal pastimes than immortal ones.

On that note, he is rather vain. He values his outward appearance enough to take the painstaking time to manage both his hair and clothes. Though he won’t stop in the middle of a life or death situation to fix his hair, it will irk him enough to make a comment about it. Something many others are quick to judge him for.

Also, he’s gay. Not flamboyantly so, but in terms of sexual orientation. This is due to some trauma he suffered as a child (and is still suffering, actually) where Skye’s forceful personality eventually wrote itself over all females in his brain to the point he could no longer find them attractive. (It actually got to the point that he disliked them on sight.) While he no longer suffers from such extreme reactions to people of the opposite gender, he still can’t find them attractive enough to fall in love with and it’s quite likely he never will. In that way, it could be said he’s pretty shallow.

Regardless of his own personality or quirks, Kalael has a definite somber air about him that says this is someone who has seen a lot and knows even more. No matter what anyone might think of him, he knows that this world is filled with both joy and sorrow, and while both might come out even in the end, during the intervals one can easily outweigh the other. To that end, he's chosen to continue believing in God despite the troubles he's had in his own personal life. If there's one thing he knows God has taught him, it's that he has a plan for everything. The only problem is that sometimes you don't always live long enough to witness its conclusion.

Why should that character be in this game: For character interaction and the potential to expand on Kal's personality.

Why do you want to continue their history here: For characters from other games only.

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Have you read up on how the game works?:

1. Flaming Ferret

2. A) Lightning Post/Mission
B) Selling your skills. ... such as if you're a mechanic. :|
C) Mooch off other PCs.

1st person sample: [Have a pretty-boy-winged-thing on your screen, Thorians.] The first thing I'd like to make clear is that I'm not here for you or for God. My circumstances have been brought about by completely ridiculous happenstance and I'll be sure to tell fate or karma if I ever meet them that they can take a religious artifact and shove it someplace it was never meant to go. [This, it should be noted, has been said in the blandest tone of voice manageable.]

With that out of the way, I'm assuming precious little has changed in the many minutes/years I've been absent because if there's one thing I remember this place being good at, it was maintaining the status quo. That being said, I require liquor. Strong liquor. So if someone could tell me which bars are still standing and which ones have dropped out of existence, I would appreciate it.

3rd person sample: This wasn't right.

Looking down upon Forden's form, pale and lackluster, Kalael reached out with slender fingers and gently brushed aside some of his stray bangs, settling them neatly into place. Merlin, his second, watched him from the door with carefully blank eyes, but you didn't need to be a mind reader to know what he was thinking, just a really old friend. He too, Kal was sure, knew this was so very, very wrong.

With a soft sigh, the angel drew back and gave the room around him a glance over. Small, cramped with blinking machines and reeking of that unpleasant smell most hospitals had. (Something like bleach and detergent mixed together.) As his eyes landed on the holoboard next to the bed, he picked it up on a whim and began scanning through it, lips curling into a grim smile as he slid his finger over the surface and watched the pages of information fly by on the screen.

So much writing only to say that the doctors knew nothing. Not even his name.

'A coma patient?' He thought dryly, eyes flickering towards the form on the bed and back to the screen. 'I suppose it fits. A dying coma patient would be more accurate.' He added dimly as he brought up the keyboard and began to write, noting the way Merl straightened at his thoughts.

'Gin,' The telepath began, expression serious.

'I know, I don't plan to let him rot away in this bed for the rest of his life. He deserves more than that.' Kalael interrupted shortly, responding in kind in case there were some unwanted ears nearby. When Merl's eyes flickered with something he registered as amusement, the angel turned on his friend, fingers paused, and raised an eyebrow. 'Something funny? I would love to hear a joke right about now.' He added, mental voice sarcastically light.

'I already know you're going to do something about it.' Merl replied, voice dangerously even as he looked at Kal with a perfectly straight face and tapped his head, as if to remind the other he was a mind reader. 'I was going to say the nurse is doing bed checks and is on route.'

'How long?' Kalael asked as he resumed typing. His answer was the room door opening.

"What on-?" The nurse managed to squeak before Merl was behind her, placing his palms over her temples and freezing her thought process. There was a slight quirk to his lips.

"Your sense of humor never ceases to amuse." Kal muttered as his fingers continued to work, filling in the patient information. He was giving Forden an actual age, a medical history and a last name. Once that was complete, he replaced the holoboard where he had found it and couldn't resist giving Forden one last parting look. "I warned you," he murmured, unable to hold back the regret he felt as he eyed his former student lying on a human hospital bed. "You would have been happier ignoring me."

And then he was gone, brushing past Merl and heading towards the door in the hotel lobby. Once outside, the angel breathed in some fresh air gratefully and took up a seat on a nearby bench, waiting. It was another two minutes before Merl arrived looking as serious as ever.

"Wiped the nurse and planted false memories in the receptionist." The blonde answered before Kal could even ask, earning him a wry grin.

"Then I guess we should get started with the real work."
